Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
We strive to create an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity, encourages innovation, and ensures equal opportunities for all. Our workplace policies and practices are designed to promote diversity and embrace the unique perspectives that each individual brings. From hiring and training to career growth and advancement, our processes are transparent and based on skills, experience, and merit.
Canadian Regulations
As part of our strategy, we adhere to key legislative frameworks that promote equality and fairness.
- Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA): The CHRA prohibits discrimination based on “race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability, and conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted.”
- Employment Equity Act: This act aims to achieve workplace equality by removing barriers, such as systemic biases, accessibility issues, and underrepresentation of certain groups in leadership roles. Employers are required to promote diversity in the workplace by setting targets, implementing action measures, and monitoring progress.
Why Diversity and Inclusion Matters
A diverse team and an inclusive environment contribute to innovative solutions and better decision-making, while also fostering a supportive workplace culture and increasing productivity. Ultimately, upholding these values benefits our team and enhances the quality of service we provide to our readers and partners.
Further Improvements
- Encouraging Reader Feedback: We actively seek input from our diverse readers to better understand their needs and preferences. In line with this initiative, we are in the process of implementing a comments section to provide a platform that encourages open dialogue and feedback.
- Increasing Accessibility: We prioritize making our online platform accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. Currently, we are enhancing our accessibility features to meet WCAG 2.1 AAA compliance standards and improve user experience.
- Establishing Partnerships: We already collaborate with organizations that share our commitment to diversity and inclusion. That being said, we are always looking to foster meaningful partnerships to drive positive change in our industry and community.
- Content Diversity: We’ve recently implemented a new strategy to feature diverse perspectives in our content. The goal is to ensure all the information present on our site is inclusive and relevant to our diverse audience.
